How to use ASC
The Arc Stair Climber (ASC) is a tool that assists the process of moving an Arc up and down stairs. Please read this page in its entirety before operating the ASC. With adherence to the proper safety protocols outlined on this page, you can safely move an Arc up and down a set of stairs.
Turn the key to power the ASC (on the main control box) and the power button on the handle to turn on the ASC.
Check that the rolling wheels are locked and Arc is covered (using the provided R-Zero cover) before loading the Arc.
Ensure the Arc power cord is wrapped up and tucked away then roll the Arc into position, ensuring that the handle with LCD display is facing out.
To secure the Arc to the ASC (required) belt the clip to secure the Arc into position.
Slowly tilt back the ASC to pick up the Arc and slowly wheel the Arc toward the stairs.
To go downstairs slowly approach the top of the staircase while firmly holding the ASC handles. The ASC treads will rest on the the top stair. Press the down button and the ASC will move down the stairs.
Continue to hold the down button and wheel the ASC away from the bottom until both the operator and the ASC are a safe distance away from the bottom of the staircase.
When going up stairs, place the treads on the stairs and hit the up button and continue up to the top of the stairs.
Do not pause on the last stair or begin to stand the unit upright on the last stair. Make sure the ASC and the Arc are fully clear of the last stair and continue a safe distance away from the staircase before setting down the ASC and the Arc.
To secure the Arc to the ASC (required) belt the clip to secure the Arc into position.
Minimum Operating Conditions
The ASC requires a 7’x7’x7’ space at the top and the bottom of each staircase in order to be used safely. Be careful around low ceilings and tight turns.
Do not use the ASC on: a spiral staircase, on stairs narrower than 36”, stairs steeper than 45deg, or a 1:1 ratio between the tread width and riser height.
General Maintenance
As part of normal maintenance, be sure to check that treads do not have any cracks or damage and move as expected when using the up and down function, battery is fully installed and is not coming loose from its bracket and all wires and electrical connections are free of damage.
